Literary Freedom Project
ABOUT US

The Literary Freedom Project is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt not-for-profit arts organization, established in 2001, that supports the literary arts through education, creative thinking, and new media. Towards this goal, The Literary Freedom Project publishes Mosaic Literary Magazine; develops literature-based lesson plans; and hosts the Re:Verse Literary Conference & Festival, an annual literature-education conference.

Mosaic Literary Magazine
Mosaic is a quarterly magazine exploring the literary arts by writers of African descent.

Through articles, essays, book reviews, and interviews the quarterly has increased the literary reach of some of the most important voices effecting change on many artistic fronts. Poets from Jessica Care Moore to Sonya Sanchez, Lucille Clifton to Major Jackson have all graced our pages. In the mix of exciting voices we have featured interviews with such prominent literary figures as Tina McElroy Ansa, bell hooks, Colson Whitehead, Willie Perdomo, William Demby, Walter Mosley, Raquel Rivera, Bakari Kitwana and others.

Mosaic serves as an important resource for readers interested in writers of the African Diaspora.

Website: MosaicMagazine.org
Mosaic’s website, MosaicMagazine.org, plays an important role in developing and maintaining audience and subscribers. The website serves as an online presence for the print publication and makes available back issues for download. In August 2009, the site will start to feature original content as well as guest bloggers. It will also feature an expanded collection of digital media including podcasts and video streams.

Education
Mosaic supplements the editorial content of each issue with lesson plans that are developed based on the content of Mosaic. These lesson plans, which are developed for secondary school educators, demonstrate how Mosaic’s content can serve as a connective tool to explore educational subjects such as history and social studies while also serving to increase the importance of literature and reading.

Re:Verse Literary Conference & Festival
The Re:Verse Literary Conference & Festival is an annual event that provides a platform for literature-based creative thinking and knowledge sharing. Educators, community and arts organizations, and artists are invited to participate in literature and new media workshops. ReverseFestival.org

Previous Festivals have honored the legacies of Audra Lorde and Gwendolyn Brooks.
